[Gig Review] BURY TOMORROW (UK) w/ special guests GIDEON (US) + HEADWRECK, HEISTS @ NORTHCOTE THEATRE (AU) 10.09.26.
Firstly, a special apology to Melbourne metalcore legends Heists and sick Sydney supports Headwreck as I narrowly missed their sets whilst reeling from a 90-minute commute. See below for links to their online social links and high calibre music.
Apparently recent additions to the already opulent and ambient Northcote Theatre included vibrant coloured lights and bar stools on the balcony mezzanine. After my third Goat pint, this conjured up nostalgic memories of Gramercy Theatre NYC, albeit that old place has nothing on Northcote Theatre's always accommodating, spacious, modern grandeur.
Tonight, three separate intercontinental waves of metalcore converged on Melbourne, each crashing with their own brand of voracious vigor before a sizeable sea of similarly eager mid-week wave riders. And evidently, there were more than a few literal surfers tonight who were keen to ride the sound storm to its epic end.
Formidable Alabama boys Gideon blazed their way through tracks including 'Wrong One' and 'Til The Wheels Fall Off' from their latest '4X4' EP. along with 'Too Much Is Never Enough'
Like a typically encouraging metalcore frontman, Daniel McWhorter (not to be confused with Bury Tomorrow’s Daniel Winter-Bates) conjured up a rather early circle pit at around 9pm on this Wednesday night.

McWhorter escalated the metal show traditions as he utilised this sizeable standing floor crowd to split the room in two and a decent mini wall of death was facilitated. Not bad for a quiet mid-week metal show.

'More Power More Pain' brought their set to a thrilling pinnacle which was exhilarating to say the least.
McWhorter and band were undoubtedly impressed with the swathes of youthful fans who said ‘fuck it’ and opted for a quick ride over the top during the fitting track 'Take Me'.
All the while Daniel McWhorter shouted words of encouragement –"I know you've got more, dig deep, dig deep baby! You're almost there, come on!" As at least eight people got lifted within a 45 second window of high energy opportunity.

Bury Tomorrow @ Northcote Theatre, 10.09.26
Light keys with lights down and an anticipatory hush preceded Bury Tomorrow's set, with that distinctive British accent evident early on.
Front man Daniel Winter-Bates entered and crouched as the red and black colour theme continued to add a layer of anticipation, and the rest of the band entered from their stage left. The music built to an explosive beginning. This is the beginning of their Will You Haunt Me, with That Same Patience album tour.
A crowd sing along on the heavy melodic metalcore track 'Choke' inspired a new fan in myself, as they had been previously relegated to the copious (albeit mostly high calibre) metal bands abundant today. Another band to add to my ceaseless list of loves.
Their musical prowess coupled with an entertaining stage performance highlighted Bury Tomorrow's proficiency as a top tier metalcore band. Winter-Bates’ vocal intensity and range are certainly something to behold.
Between the melody and the mayhem, Winter-Bates and band spread positive life-affirming vibes and good will towards mental health. "I have stood in a room like this and felt alone...but I promise you this it will get better, stick around, you will find out, I promise you..."
By 10:30pm, Bury Tomorrow won me over with their seamless, attention grabbing, melodious metalcore. It was with haste that I descended the stairs to the main floor with the already ingratiated standing room crowd to join in the charged kinetic positive contagion that is Bury Tomorrow.
My subsequent Thursday became a tomorrow buried by layers of foamy pints and a self-induced bed coffin, only alleviated by copious coffee, sunshine, and memories of a metalcore yesterday that I thoroughly enjoyed.
