[Heavy News] RISE AGAINST (US) Announce Double-Headline Tour w/ DROPKICK MURPHY’S (US).
Chicago, IN (US)-based modern punk juggernaughts Rise Against are headed back Down Under for some of their biggest shows to date - and they’re bringing the one and only Boston (MA) Celt-punk heroes Dropkick Murphy’s (US) with them!
With the success of their most recent album Ricochet (see here for our review of said album, by ISC writer Mal Keecher), Rise Against have built upon a storied 20+ year tradition of torch-bearing politically charged, emotive and melodic punk rock. After their initial LP The Unraveling brought them onto the scene back in 2001, it was 2003’s Revolutions Per Minute and the hugely-successful breakout 3rd LP Siren Song Of The Counter Culture + follow-up The Sufferer And The Witness that truly launched their name into the alternative-music scene.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve likely forgotten these guys are now ten LP’s/multiple EP’s deep and 27 years into their career, with a richer catalogue of material to draw from on the live stage than ever!
And do we really need to give any mention to one of modern punk’s most established instutitions?! Well, I guess we do, huh - formed all the way back in 1996, vocalist Ken Casey and Co. have overseen decades of political tumult, their own political initiatives and charity work and more - true punks, living the punk ethos, under a very Irish-American fun-times banner! Not to give you millenial-and-up punks too much existential crisis, but this tour also coincides with the Celt party-punks’ 30th year as a hardworking, relentless act with 13 full-length LP’s under the belt. Their most recent LP For The People saw a rowdy mob join them for a plethora of guest appearances - including a guest vocal performance by prior singer Al Barr on ‘The Vultures Circle High’!
So, there you have it - two politically-charged, hook-friendly and rabble-rousin’ punk acts hitting up a swathe of shows in massive venues! Our fellow island compatriots across the pond in New Zealand will be the first to cop the RA/DK double-hitter, playing Sat Nov 21st @ Wolfbrook Arena in Christchurch, Tue 24th at Spark Arena in Auckland, before hitting up a run of dates Australia-side, beginning with John Cain Arena in Melbourne on the 27th.
